Complete Breeding Guide

Breeding is one of the most powerful systems in Palworld. It lets you produce Pals with perfect passive skills, powerful traits, and even access Pals that are otherwise only found deep in dangerous biomes. Once you understand how it works, breeding becomes the fastest way to build a truly elite team.

In this guide we'll cover how breeding works, what determines the offspring, how passive skills are inherited, and how to plan breeding chains for the Pals you actually want.

How Breeding Works

Breeding requires a Breeding Farm, which unlocks at technology level 19. Place two Pals of opposite genders inside and they'll start producing an egg. After a hatching period, the egg hatches into an offspring Pal.

The offspring is determined by the breeding power of the two parents, not by a simple mother + father rule. Every Pal has a hidden breeding power value, and the combination of the two parents' values is mapped to a specific offspring Pal.

This is why some combinations feel intuitive while others seem random — the system uses a lookup table of parent combinations rather than inherited species.

Use A Breeding Calculator

Because the offspring depends on breeding power combinations, the fastest way to plan your breeding is to use a dedicated calculator. Our Breeding Calculator supports forward search (which two Pals produce a target) and reverse search (what offspring your two Pals will produce).

Enter any two Pals and the calculator instantly shows the resulting offspring, plus any hidden intermediate steps in a breeding chain.

Understanding Breeding Power

Each species has a breeding power between 0 and roughly 1500. Lower breeding power generally maps to more common or starter Pals, while the rarest legendaries sit at the very top of the range.

When you breed two Pals, the game averages their breeding powers and looks up the closest Pal with that value. Because of this, breeding a high-power Pal with a low-power Pal can sometimes produce an unexpected middle-tier Pal.

Passive Skill Inheritance

Passive skills are the most valuable thing you can pass down. The offspring will inherit passive skills from its parents, but not all passives transfer equally.

  • 4 passives: When both parents share passives, the chance of passing them down is much higher.
  • Random selection: The game randomly picks which passives from the combined parent pool the offspring receives.
  • Re-roll until perfect: Most breeders hatch many eggs, keeping offspring that inherited the right passives and breeding those onward.

To breed a Pal with 4 ideal passives, start with two parents that each carry 2 of your target passives, then keep breeding the best offspring forward until you get a child holding all 4.

Pal Souls And Condensing

Once you have a Pal with the perfect passives, you can pour resources into it. Pal Souls increase stats permanently, while the Pal Condenser allows you to feed duplicate Pals of the same species to raise the Pal's level and partner skill.

Hatching extra eggs is actually useful — those duplicate offspring become condensing fuel for your main Pal.

Ranch And Egg Hatching

After a Breeding Farm produces an egg, place it in an Egg Incubator to start hatching. Egg type (normal, scorching, watery, etc.) hints at what element the offspring will be, but the exact Pal is fixed the moment the egg is laid.

Eggs hatch faster in matching temperature environments. Scorching eggs hatch faster in hot areas, watery eggs near water, and so on. You can also use the hatching speed to plan around your base location.

Breeding Chains For Rare Pals

Some Pals can only be produced through long breeding chains — a sequence of breeding steps that ends at the Pal you want. This is especially important for endgame Pals that only appear in the highest-level regions.

Start with readily available Pals and breed upward. Each step produces a higher-breeding-power Pal, and eventually you reach the target. Our calculator's chain view maps out these intermediate steps automatically.

Tips For Efficient Breeding

  • Catch multiple specimens of the same Pal to get variety in passive traits.
  • Keep a male and female of every species you want to breed — gender matters.
  • Assign a Pal with the Philanthropist passive to reduce egg production time.
  • Boost base food levels to keep breeding Pals happy and productive.
  • Batch your breeding — hatch many eggs at once, then condense the spares.
  • Plan 4-passive inheritance early; it's much harder to fix later.

Final Thoughts

Breeding rewards planning. Once you understand breeding power, passive inheritance, and chains, you can produce the exact Pal you want instead of hoping for luck. Pair that knowledge with our Breeding Calculator and you'll go from random results to a precise, repeatable production line.
